Deduction day isn't on a calendar, but charities are flooded with giving on last day of the tax year. A steady stream of cars pulled up to the rear of Goodwill Industries in South Whitehall Township Monday with people unloading last-minute donations to claim charitable deductions on 2007 tax returns.

The last three days of December is Goodwill's busiest time of the year for merchandise and financial donations.

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) -- The Goodwill store on Battleground Ave. typically gets about 200 donations a day, but today almost a thousand donations are expected. This seasonal increase can be attributed to people wanting to get a few last minute tax deductions before the new year, but shoppers also benefit. Goodwill stores open at 9 a.m. on New Year's Day.

The e-commerce program run by Goodwill Industries of Western New York has received a double dose of funding totaling more than $226,000.

Tacoma Goodwill's job-placement and training programs have received the highest level of accreditation available, according to a statement released this month.

One place where end-of-the-year donations were really flooding in over the weekend was the Goodwill store at 4004 E. Stan Schlueter Loop, and probably other Goodwill stores and similar collection points in the area, although tax deductions might not be the primary incentive there.
